(Tampa, FL) GSL Solutions, in conjunction with USA Environmental, Inc. and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers South Atlantic District, published an interactive storybook for mobile devices. "UXO Safety" follows the adventures of Roxie, Sgt. Woof, and their friends as they explore Camp Two Feathers and learn about the dangers of unexploded ordnance, or UXO.
Michael Gaines, one of the founders of GSL Solutions, is enthusiastic about the book's launch. "This was a very collaborative project, and we're grateful to have had the opportunity to work on it," he says. Mr. Gaines says the project took the collective skills of GSL's team members to make it work. "It's something we've never done before."
Going to camp as a child inspired Mr. Gaines to write the story. Using characters created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from around the world for other educational materials, he developed a story that would illustrate the fun of going to camp as well as the danger of UXO. Designer Filipp Burykin and developer Erik Gern worked with Mr. Gaines to develop the book for the mobile platform. Dave Hodgdon, better known in the US Senate for his voice heard in weekly podcasts, narrated the book.
GSL, USA Environmental and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have collaborated before on educational websites for students and a video produced by South East High School of Manatee County. GSL Solutions, located in Tampa, Florida, was founded in 1999. It has developed software and websites for local Florida school districts, businesses and large organizations. They also provide web development services for the US Senate and House of Representatives. This is the company's first foray into the educational eBook market.
